Be Heard - An Audio Visual on Overthinking and Ruminating
This post sets the scene. It shows what is really happening when you are overthinking and ruminating.
Further posts will go into new ways to deal with this head thinking pattern.
Ruminating may seem like there is a problem in the external world to solve.
That you will find the perfect thing to say to someone.
That you will think up the perfect plan to get the outcome you desire.
That you will overcome.
What you’re really trying to overcome is how you feel.
You’ve head is acting like a filter because it sees those feelings as something to manage.
Something that it wants to control.
It has learnt this reaction.
Neighbours/Partner/An Email annoys you - AN EMOTION (BODY)
You feel frustrated and think how to respond - FILTER (HEAD)
This goes round and round in a feedback loop - MORE THOUGHTS (HEAD)
You imagine escalating situations - MORE THOUGHTS (HEAD)
Your frustration builds - FEEDBACK MORE EMOTION (BODY)
You feel that bad combo of tired and wired.
The thoughts have no distinguishing terrain.
It is the emotions that give them relief (in a geography sense of the word).
If you can hear them and notice that they are coming from you you can stop fighting them.
