'Just because it’s windy... it doesn’t mean you have to fly your kite.'
This is a reminder for myself as much as anyone…
IF you can feel something is drawing you in
AND it doesn’t serve you to get caught up in it,
THEN draw your focus (your kite) back to yourself.
With any people and situations that bother you,
just don’t spend your time thinking about them.
This includes negative thoughts.
Just because you have negative thoughts.. doesn’t mean you have to entertain them.
'Just because it’s windy... doesn’t mean you have to fly your kite.'
Positive psychologist Alfred Adler had a concept called ‘separation of tasks’.
For example, whether someone likes you or not, is their task, not yours.
Don’t concern yourself with other people’s tasks - Don’t people-please.
Just do your tasks - Gain your independence.
I might extend this to thoughts.
It’s not my task to entertain my thoughts.
It’s my task to see them as thoughts and do something else, something I want to do.
A better hobby than kite flying might be Meteorology (reading the weather).
How to read the weather..
EITHER.. Sit in your log cabin, light a fire and stare out at the sky.
OR.. be the hawk riding above the wind, watching it below you.
DON’T.. Fly your kite.
Get to read the weather well..
because on a deeper level, you could say you are the weather.
